Hard Drives
There are four main advantages to using a hard drive. These are:
- Storage capacity
- Speed
- Safety
- Convenience
The average hard disk takes about one-fiftieth of a second to find a certain segment of data on the disk. This makes them a very speedy method of storing data.
Both fixed hard drives and removable hard drives are built into some sort of protective unit. This means that the information stored on them is generally safe from most atmospheric disturbances or human errors. So if you spill coffee over it or it is in a dirty environment, it usually will not get damaged. This makes them much safer than a floppy disk or a CD.
Hard drives are incredibly convenient. They allow the user to run multiple programs at the same time. Hard drives are one of the best methods of permanent storage available. However it must be remembered that they do fail from time to time so back-ups are important.
