Jet Lag
Jet lag symptoms are characterized by tiredness and disorientation. Often the sufferer will find it hard to concentrate or to motivate themselves to do even the simplest activities. They will wake during the night or struggle getting to sleep, then be tiered during the day. It may take days to break your habitual sleeping pattern.
Often these symptoms can be made worse by the small, confined seating and the sometimes stale air. Avoiding jet lag may mean getting up to walk or stretching in your seat. If the air is stuffy, asking a flight attendant to turn up the fresh air may help.
Being over tiered, stressed, hung over or excited before departure can also lead to jet lag. A good nights sleep and drinking plenty of water to combat the dryness in the cabin is recommended. Many passengers find themselves feeling tiered and bloated during flight. This is because the air pressure in an airplane is higher than normal for most people.
The effect that alcohol has on the body is said to be two or three times stronger than normal in the air. Therefore, avoid drinking during flights. Many people often get stomach complaints while flying. For this reason, it is best to follow an anti- jet lag diet , not eating more than necessary and ensuring that the food is safe. Tea, coffee and orange juice served on flights is usually stronger than normal and are not recommended for most passengers.
Jet lag remedies are available over the counter.
